Breaking the Bias - Hackathon for AB InBev to identify and hire #WomenInTech

About the Hackathon

Anheuser-Busch InBev, commonly known as AB InBev, is a Belgian multinational drink and brewing company. For Technology, Analytics, and Operations roles, AB InBev wanted to hire top tech talent, exclusively women to #breakthebias against women in tech.
The hackathon was giving an opportunity for women in tech to learn how to use data, technology, and machine learning to solve real business problems. Further, AB InBev wanted to identify people who can innovate and create scalable solutions that can be implemented across ABInBev GCC India.

The Story:

AB InBev had some specific needs for the Hackathon. They wanted the difficulty level to match IIT level coding. Languages required by AB InBev were Java, Python, C# 
The hackathon was giving an opportunity for women in tech to learn how to use data, technology, and machine learning to solve real business problems. Further, AB InBev wanted to identify people who can innovate and create scalable solutions that can be implemented across ABInBev GCC India. Based on the requirements, Yaksha’s in-house content team has created the hackathon using customised challenges.

  • The hackathon was language-agnostic, meaning the participants can use any language (Java/Python/C#) to solve the challenge
  • The challenge was announced on AB InBev’s website as well as Yaksha’s.
  • The difficulty level of the hackathon was set as high so that they can select the crème de la crème of the participants

The Result:

As a result, the hackathon got phenomenal response from women in tech applying for the hackathon.

  • The participants who were able to solve the hackathon went through another screening process based on the job roles AB InBev announced.
  • The top 15% were shortlisted and selected based on their skills and role fit.
  • AB InBev could successfully hire in volume and fill their available roles within a day.
  • Yaksha Hackathon has been able to increase the efficiency and quality of hiring massively, as an added advantage also helped AB InBev hire #womenintech contributing to diversity hiring.
